  1. The Lightning Thief
    By Rick Riordan
book report by Keenan C. Schissel

The book "The Lightning Thief" is about a demigod (which is half mortal, half god) named Percy Jackson. Recently, someone has stolen Zeus's mighty lightning bolt and everyone is blaming Percy for stealing it. Plus, Percy's mom got abducted by one of Hades' minion, the Minotaur! So Percy must find whoever stole the Lightning bolt and save his mother. But the catch is, is that he only has to the summer solstice (which is ten days) or there will be a massive war and earth will be the battle ground!
The major conflict in this book is that someone has stolen Zeus's mighty lightning bolt and every one blames Percy for stealing it. And unless he can find the lightning bolt, the world could possibly destroyed (so that means this conflict is person vs. world). The conflict is resolved when Percy finds that Luke (who is the antagonist) put the lightning bolt in his shield. And when Percy goes to bring the lightning bolt to Olympus, Luke shows up and they have an epic battle. But Percy ends up wining and he returns it to Zeus.
The theme of this story is "nothing is impossible if you believe in yourself". For instance, Percy has ADHD and dyslexia (which means he needs to keep moving and it's harder to read). But Percy finds out that his weaknesses can be his powers. Like when Percy had to kill the minotaur, his ADHD kept him alive to keep battling . Also, when Percy had to find Hades' secret lair, he found out that he can read ancient Greek instead of English.
The protagonist of this story is Percy Jackson for many, many, many reasons. One, he had to find and give back the most powerful weapon in existence, Zeus's Mighty lightning bolt. Also, he had to save his mom from Hades' clutch. So you can see why Percy is the main character.
I would recommend this book to anyone who likes adventure and a little Greek mythology because this story was very, very invigorating quest tale that I read!

  2. The Perks of Being a Wallflower
    By Stephen Chobosky

The book begins with a 15 year old boy, Charlie. He writes letters to an unknown person about his life. The only friend he has committed suicide last year, he has to go into his first year of highschool with no friends. He was befriended by a senior Patrick, he introuced Charlie to his group and he now had friends.Charlie has emotional mood swings about his Aunt Helen who died around Christmas around 10 years ago. In the end Charlie told his family that his aunt had sexually molested him.
The major conflict in the book is that Charlie feels he doesn’t belong. He is lonely, afraid and lost. He then became friends with Patrick and his group. Little by little he started feeling like he belonged. He started to feel normal again.
The theme in the book is to be yourself. In the beginning Charlie was one of those kids who didn’t really talk, raise his hand in class, or even make eye contact with people. At a football game he finally decided to talk to Patrick a guy from his shop class. Patrick and all his friends liked Charlie and thought he was a cool guy. He even got a girlfriend. Alls you have to do was open up and act like yourself and people will like you.
The protagonist Charlie, he is the main character who is also the narrator. He would occasionally cry over his aunt and little things. He had issues that he needed to resolve. He was checked into a mental hospital for a little bit. After a while he had figured his problems out.
I would recommend this book because its a really good page turner type of book. It also might help or teach some kids good life lessons.

  3. Title: Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince
    Author: JK Rowling
    Book report by: Paige Nygaard

The book is about Voldemort’s rise of power and the MInistry’s struggle to protect against him. The climax is when Severus Snape kills Albus Dumbledore. I think this because this is where the most action is and it leads to the resolution.
The major conflict in this book is that Voldemort’s gaining power. The type of conflict is external conflict; person vs force. The conflict is resolved by Dumbledore dying and Harry freaks out does a spell and Voldemort shrivels up into a baby like object and disappears.
The theme of the story is never be too careful especially at the expense of others. In the book the ministry throws innocent people in Azkaban, thinking that they’re death eaters. So innocent people are in prison. Ex. the guy who runs the ice cream shop in Diagon Alley.
Harry Potter is the protagonist because he is the main character, and the “chosen one”. He changes by becoming more educated on Voldemort, becomes more powerful, and he became quidditch captain.
I would definitely recommend this book for grades 6-12. I would definitely recommend this book because it is super interesting.

  4. I am number four

    Author: Pittacus Lore

The climax of I am number four is when the magadorians come to the school and they find John and Henri Smith are. John goes to the school before he knows that the magadorians are there because he remembers that Sarah is at the school and he wants to talk to her. John wants to talk to Sarah because he is mad at Henri because Henri wants to leave Ohio and that would mean leaving his “love” Sarah. So when John gets to the school he finds Sarah and the magadorians. John first finds Sarah and she is in the printing room and all curled up in a ball because she was so afraid. Sarah was so afraid because all of the lights turned off randomly so she got very afraid. Then John finally got to the school and he found Sarah so he helped her get out of the school but with some trouble along the way.

One major conflict was when Henri got stabbed in the back by a magadorians sword and then dies. This is very hard on John because Henri was like a father and helped him with almost his whole life. It was also hard on John because he has to just see him die right in his lap because he can’t do anything to help Henri. So in the end Henri dies and John has to leave him and keep on trying to stay alive and hidden from the magadorians. It was very sad for me because Henri risked his life to keep John alive so he didn’t want Henri to die either but he couldn’t have done anything but watch him die.

The moral of the story is that even if you are different than others it could be a good thing. I know that this is the moral of the story because in the end they are all different and have different power. They use their powers to kill the magadorians and help their friends. Some examples from in the book are when John helps himself by using his telekinesis by moving a sword toward him and kill the magadorian that that tried to kill him. Another example is when Six stirs up a storm to tell John and their friends that Six and Henri are still alive.

The protagonists are John, Henri, Sarah, Mark, Six, and Bernie Koras (BK). I know that they are all the protagonists because they all help each other in some way. They all have helped each other in some way because they all are on the same team. One example is when John helps Sarah by getting her out of the burning house when the house was on fire. Another example is when BK turns into a big monster and helps John with a beast that is on magadorians side so BK kills and helps John but BK almost dies. But then John helps out BK by fixing his broken leg.
I would recommend this book to anyone who likes the the hunger games books/movies. I would recommend it because it has some similarities to the hunger games like fighting, saving people, and so much more!!

  5. Hush Hush
    by Becca fitzpatrick

This is about this girl name Nora. It’s her first day at school and her lab partner is a guy name Patch. At first she doesn’t like him and think he’s a little creepy,But how does he know a lot about Nora? Well as time goes by she drew feelings for him and started liking him. She wonders Why does he have V shape scars on his back? and is he here to Harm Nora or trying to save her?
The type of conflict in this book is person vs person. It would be person vs person because she has to fight with the antagonist to save her life. Surprisingly the antagonist was one of her closest friends. How this conflict occur is by the antagonist blackmails her that if she doesn't come; He’ll kill one of her friends. At the end of this all she killed the antagonist and saves her life.
The theme of this book would probably be that “People aren't who you expect they’ll be”. This would be the theme because who she thought was her best friend and the person who you she can trust; turn out that he was trying to kill her. Also She thought Patch was creep and a bit weird,But then he saved her from her killer. “He gave me the creeps”. That shows that at first he was off creepy. “He knew… other things,he knew more than i wanted to comfortably contemplate”. This also shows that she's unsure about him and should keep away from him.
The protagonist of this book would be Nora. Nora s the protagonist because this book was from her point of view. Also She goes through a lot in this book more than the other characters. First Nora goes through meeting her weird lab partner and had to deal with him through the whole year, and then she started having feelings for her lab partner Patch. At the end she goes through killing the antagonist and saving herself and being Patch’s girlfriend.
I would Highly recommend this book to everybody. I would recommend this book because It was a suspenseful book and a real page turner. Also there's other books in the series as Crescendo and Silence. Hope you like reading this book as much as i do.

  6. Micah Chamberlain
    Grind
    Eric Walters

The big climax of the story, is when they met the professional skateboarder, that inspired them to make their own website. They way the group was made, was some friends from a little town who loved to skateboard. The only reason they mainly wanted to do it, was for money.

The main conflict of the story, is the security guards that protected their skating area. They only got to skate there for a little bit, because if the securities caught them, they would have to go to jail. But finally they found a solution. They dug a little hole that only they could fit through, because the security guards were so big and slow.

The theme of the story, is “working together can take you far.” The reason I picked that for a theme, is because in the story they worked together and as hard as they could and it payed off because they finally got sponsored.

The protagonist of the story, is probably Phil. The reason for that is because he was the one to start the group. If he never was there to help them, they never would have gotten sponsored because he was the best skateboarder out of the group.

I would highly recommend this book for anyone who like intense books, who like skateboarding, and people that likes real life situations.

  7. Inexcusible by Chris lynch

A boy named keir has a friend named Gigi. He has been madly in love with her since they were little. While he talks to her, one day he said something that she took the wrong way. So he tries to straighten things out between them until she knows what he meant.

Gigi believe kier was a bad person, because she was mad at him for saying something that she took the wrong way. He thinks words explain better then actions, but he thinks “maybe this time I should try to use my actions instead of my words and see where that goes.” So he finally proved to her that he is a good guy by talking to her and treating her the right way.

The theme of the story to me is to treat others the way you want to be treated. I think this becaue in the story kier is at a graduation party, everybody likes him and he is glad he is there. He was treated with respect the whole party because in the past he has treated them with respect. He has earned their respect.

The protangonoist of this book is kier because he is the main character of the book. He changed at the end of his school year. I know this becaue he would normally want to party, party, party. But today he didnt want to. He was maturing so he decided not to have a party of his own. He decided to spend the rest of his night with a couple of school friends.

I would recommend this book to teens around the age of 15 years old because I think they would be able to relate to this book a lot. This book is about high school and what you want to do after high school. It has a cool sport in it like football. To me this is a very interesting book. I think everyone would like it.

  8. Hunger Games
    By: Cameron Wresh
Katniss Everdeen the 16 year old protagonist that has to fight her way through the intense, and grueling Hunger Games. Her and 23 other tributes 1 boy and 1 girl from 12 different districts have to fight to the death in the arena. Only one survivor will remain as the victor of the 74th Hunger Games. Three tributes remain for the climax of the story Katniss, Peta, and Cato. Katniss and Peta against Cato because They are in an allianace from the same district. They aren't the only ones in the arena… beasts are trying to attack them as they fight to the death on top of the cornucopia.
Katniss Everdeen the tribute from district 12, and she is the protagonist of the story. She must fight for her life in the Capitols Hunger Games. She doesn’t want to kill anyone in the arena but to stay alive she must. This type of conflict is person vs. person because she must fight other people to the death. Katniss and Peta remain as the finalists of the games yet only one could win. They both ate poison berries but were nursed back to health to keep the reputation of the capitol.
The theme of the story is stay true to yourself. Even though the people of the games are forcing you into the arena don’t let them change who you are with all the makeup, clothing, and killing of the Hunger Games. Katniss remains who she is through the games, and this shows that society can’t change you and no one else can.
Katniss Everdeen as I said earlier is the protagonist. I know this becasue she is not only the narrator but she is most often mentioned about in the book. She really endours no big changes. All she wants to do is get back to her regular life with Prim and her mom. She loves to hunt as she still does when she returns from the games. She remotely stays the same through the entire stretch of the book.
I would reccomend this book becausee it keeps you held on with its many intense parts that don’t let you put the book down. This book is a action sci-fi, so if you like a good action future book this book i would reccomend to you and anyone else who just enjoys a good book to read during there bored free time.

  9. Title: Heaven is For Real
Author: Todd Burpo with Lynn Vincent
    Essay By: Max Larsen

The book Heaven is For Real is about a 5 year old boy named Colton Burpo and his amazing story to Heaven and back. Colton and his family loved to go on road trips, that is until Colton started feeling funny. Colton’s family took him to the hospital later that day. Colton stayed the night and died later the next day. Colton’s dad (Todd Burpo) was a priest and got really mad at the Heavenly Father because he didn’t do anything wrong. Colton said “I prayed for you daddy, I saw you were mad so I prayed for you.” The heavenly Father answered Coltons prayer and said to Colton that it was time to go back home. Colton regained life back at the hospital and told his parents all about heaven.

The major conflict in this book is person vs. fate. I say this because Colton is always undergoing surgery. The time when Colton does lose and goes to heaven, Colton prays and God answers his prayers. In this case Colton lost his battle vs. fate and then just like that he’s back to life in the hospital.

The theme in this book, is to never give up even in the toughest situations. I think this because Colton was in the most critical conditions several times. Even though Colton lost his fight to an illness, he ended up winning his life back. In the Bible, Luke 1:37 reads, “For nothing is impossible with God.”

Colton Burpo is the protagonist because of his amazing journey to heaven and back. The story is written by Colton’s father, Todd Burpo, who puts this dramatic story together through the words told by his son. Colton’s experience was life changing for everyone in his family. He gave details about heaven to prove heaven is for real.

I would strongly recommend this book for all ages above eight years old. This book helped me cope through a difficult time when my grandpa passed away. It made me realize that my grandpa is in a wonderful place with no pain. After reading this book, I finally understand what it means “to be in a better place”. This book is very well written and will touch many hearts.

  11. Title: Caught In The Act
    Author: Deb Loughead
    By: Graham Johnson

This story is about a typical teenager who is looking to have some fun for the summer. The main character, Dylan and his friends get in trouble with the police by letting a bonfire get out of control. Then he and his friends borrow towels from a cottage after their clothes were hidden by a couple of jerks. Later Dylan finds out they were accused of committing multiple cottage robberies after being caught on camera. The book ends with Dylan finding himself in the back of a cruiser sitting next to the robber that he worked with.

Dylan's major conflict is person vs. person and person vs. fate. During this story Dylan has to prove his innocence because nobody really believed him. This causes Dylan to have many conflicts, like losing his job, losing his friends, and losing trust from the people he’s closest to. Towards the end of the book it is resolved by getting his job back, and getting credit and recognition for catching the cottage robber.

The theme is that no matter how big a problem you have gotten into...there’s always a way out. Dylan just wanted to have a one last relaxing summer when things became bad and kept on getting worse. Dylan knew that in order to get out of it he had to be brave and secretive to everybody. As he kept trying to come up with a plan, obstacles just kept getting in the way. He barely pulls it together and catches the robber by giving a cop information on when and where to stop the suspect.

The protagonist of the story is Dylan. Even though he just “borrowed” some towels...it got him in bigger trouble than he expected. He began hiding everything from everyone he knew for his own safety. He kept on hiding information from the police in the beginning just so that the suspects wouldn't hurt him. This shows that things will just get worse, and they do. His life becomes very difficult towards the end because he has one last chance to prove his innocence.

I would recommend this book for middle school and young high school kids, mostly because it is an easier read. It is a very typical story about a teen going through struggles. I like it because it represents the troubles that some teens go through or could possibly experience. I think Caught In The Act should be read by every teen.

  12. The Big Field
    By: Cameron Baxley
The book The Big Field was about a boy named Hutch Hutchinson who is having the best summer of his life, he loves baseball, and his team has reached the finals. Even if he feels like he’s playing 2nd fiddle to Darryl on more than just the baseball Field. Hutch has already lost shortstop to Darryl and now he feels like he’s losing his dad too. But Hutch discovers not everything is the way he thought.
The climax of the story was the final baseball game.

Hutch felt like his dad didn’t love him and wasn’t proud of him. Hutch loves baseball the way his dad used to and he didn’t understand why his dad stopped showing interest in baseball when Hutch was young. Hutch found out his dad didn’t want Hutch to love baseball the way he did and break his heart the same way it broke his dads. Hutch’s relationship with Darryl was already tense so one day when Darryl was actually early to practice, Hutch saw that it was his dad, the one that never played baseball any more working with someone that wasn’t his own son, Darryl, the one who already took his spot on the field, Hutch felt like he was taking his spot with his dad. During their real practice Hutch got mad at Darryl and started a big blow out, Hutch was so jealous that he got in a fight with Darryl because Darryl said I think your daddy likes me better than he likes you.

This book had a variety of themes like not to ever be selfish: Hutch tried to not be selfish, especially in baseball, Darryl was almost always selfish at baseball, he only thought of himself. Never let your anger get the better of you: because Hutch let the anger get the best of him blew up on Darryl and because he did, he got benched a game. Never judge a book by its cover: Hutch did with Darryl and his dad by not knowing all the facts.

The protagonist was Hutch Hutchinson I knew that he was because it was his story he lived this moment. All the main situations revolved around him. Hutch was the good guy because he did what was right.

I would recommend reading this book. I think it would be good book for boys who like or play baseball. I have felt moments when I play baseball like Hutch describes.I don’t always like books so I really like books when sports are part of them. .

  13. Title: The Hunger Games
    Author: Suzanne Collins
    By: Samantha Cooper
    Part 1

Sixteen-Year-old Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark are the two tributes from district 12. Every year one girl and one boy are selected from each of the twelve districts and fight to the death until one is remaining this is called the hunger games. Did I mention that almost every moment is broadcasted on live TV for all the districts and the capital to see. Katniss’s little sister Prim was picked as a tribute to be in the hunger games. Katniss volunteered in her place. In the arena after several days had passed Katniss hears an announcement by the game makers that there has been a rule change. “Both tributes from the same district will be declared winners if they are the last two alive “. Suddenly without thinking Katniss screams out Peeta’s name. Now both Peeta and Katniss can both win if they work together. She has to think back to the last time she saw him and set out to look for him early the next morning. When she finds Peeta his leg is badly wounded. It was cut by Cato the boy from district 1. Katniss tries to clean his wound but his leg was already infected and a fever had already set in. Peeta told Katniss that he had been bleeding for a few days. Peeta and Kaniss found a cave and stayed for a few days getting food and medicine from sponsors. Finally there was Peeta, Katniss and Cato left to fight. Peeta and Katniss headed to the main lake because their main water source that they had been using had dried out. That is where they saw Cato running towards them and running from something. They dropped everything and ran towards the cornucopia, which is a building, they jumped on top of it to get away from the ferocious animals, they thought they would be safe but they were wrong. Cato was up there and put Peeta in a head lock but Cato was covered in a metal shield so Katniss could not shoot him with a bow and arrow. If you did not know Katniss is very good with a bow and arrow. She noticed Peeta making an X on the back of Cato’s hand and she shot the bow before Cato realized it. Cato was suffering, he could not get away from the animals because of the metal shield he was wearing. To put him out of his misery Katniss shot Cato again and he died.

  14. Title: The Hunger Games
    Author: Suzanne Collins
    By: Samantha Cooper
    Part 2

The major conflict in this story is when the tributes come into contact and have to kill each other to win the Hunger games. This type of conflict is called MAN vs. MAN this conflict is never resolved in this story because there is always someone killing someone until there is one remaining but in this case there is two. Another conflict in this story is MAN vs. SELF the tributes have to go through hallucinations, being starved to death, ill from cuts or wounds, and being afraid. This conflict again is never solved until there is one person left but after they go home they have to live with the experience the rest of their life. The final conflict I can think of is MAN vs. NATURE. Tributes have to fight weather conditions, animals attacking them, figure out how to feed there self, how to make a fire, and what sort of naturally grown foods to eat etc. This conflict cannot be resolved until all the tributes have left the arena.
A major theme in this story is survival. I picked this theme because it was the most important thing that kept katniss her family and Peeta alive. Some examples are at home katniss has to hunt for here food which is illegal. Katniss has to save her resources and share them with her friend Gale and her family. Katniss and her friend Gale trade the food that they kill to receive other things to keep them alive. At the reaping when they picked her sister to be in the hunger games Katniss volunteered as a tribute to save her sister from dying. Also in the arena Katniss had to hunt and try to save herself from being killed by the other tributes.
Katniss Everdeen is the protagonist in this book. I know she was the protagonist because for one she is the main character in this story. Second the book is told from her point of view. Katniss changed from a quiet, keep things inside of her kind of girl to a survivor and team player.
I personally loved this book I would read it again. The book kept me interested the whole time I was reading it. I would defiantly recommend this book to 5th graders and up. If you like an action book or when every time you pick up the book and it captivates your attention right away then you would like this book. I would not recommend this book to people who get grossed out by people being killed or people dying the book gets into a little detail on that subject.

  15. The Eleventh Plague.
    By, Jeff Hirsch.
The whole plot starts a kid, stephen and his father are the two few still live. After his dad is knocked into a river and is put into a coma, stephen desperately tries to help his father, and hid from slavers. When another settlement scavenger group find him, they take them back and try to help his dad. But when he gets into a fight with someone he is forced out, he asks for them to continue to help his father. As soon as he leaves, a girl he met back in town thinks in revenge they should play a prank. Unfortunately it goes wrong and the town think that a neighboring town did it, and called for war. Then he finds out that the town he pranked are using slavers instead. But the in the end the town disagrees with this action, so they ambush the slaver in their own town. stephen returns to help stop the slaughter of million, using his quick thinking he got he town to push back the slavers. Then he united the towns.

The main conflict is the ambush in “ settlers landing”. When stephen returns it’s the small town’s rifles pitted against the slavers, with machine guns, trucks, and so many people. Before his grandfather died of the P11 he had told stephen about military strategy. He used that with the town. It worked perfectly, he distracted the two lead men of the slavers. then the rest of the town pulled forward, and pushed the slavers back.

The theme for the story is, family is where not just by blood but by the bonds you make. Stephen had many of the town to say they were his family. But in the end its the ones who took him in and didn’t reject something new. The family that and sheltered them. they were true the true family. Stephen tried at first to keep them out, eventually he couldn’t keep it in. They were there for him when it happened.

The protagonist in the story is obviously stephen.I know this because we can hear thoughts, and visualize his actions. It’s mainly focused on him. He turns from a friendless, sociopath. To a hero in a small dwindling town, that he own’s a lot to. He made an enemy he wanted to kill himself. But when he finds his mangled body slowly dying, he wished that he wasn’t dying, and was alive and well. Even find’s out that the guy was fighting for the town not against it with the slavers.

I would recommend this book to those who like action/adventure, and a little romance. (for the record I didn’t know the book had it until I read it). It was an extraordinary book, with new shocks at each turn. You are glue to the book until a stupid distraction gets you, GOSH! This apocalypse after a deadly plague called P11 (A.K.A plague 11)is an excellent scene for deadly decaying world. Its just so emotional, it’s absolutely fantastic.

  16. Diary Of A Wimpy Kid

    Author: Jeff Kinney

This story is mainly about a boy in middle school named Greg Heffley and he is 13 years old..He is not exactly the popular kid in school. He does have one friend tho, his name is rowley. They always have crazy different ideas everyday, but somehow it never goes very well. The climax of The story would be when greg falls over in the play that he is in. He really embareses himself in front of the whole school and everyones family. So he decides it’s all over and stops singing. So that wrecked the whole play and they didn’t even finish it either.

The type of conflict in this story would definitely be person v.s. person. I say that, because at their school they are having a comic book contest and Greg thinks he is better than Rowley so he doesn’t agree with any of Rowley’s ides. So Greg came up with his own idea that Rowley didn’t like. So then they got in a argument about which one to do and Rowley said “ fine ill just do my own and it will be way better than yours”. So the next day they turned them in and Rowleys won so he got a lot of attention and Greg was very jealous so he started to not talk to eachother. But one day when they were outside for recess and people started to say “ fight, fight, fight” but then they realized that they are friends not enemies so that day when they got home they played their games together and had lots of fun doing it.

The theme of the story is that Greg tries to make rowley cool, Because Greg thinks he is going to be famous and his friend has to be perfect like him. Also, because when they were in the hallway rowley goes up to greg and says “ Do you want to play?“ on page 2. And greg said “ i’ve told you at least a thousand times it’s not play its hangout “.

The protagonist in this story is Rowley, he always did the right thing. He never got in trouble. And nine times out of ten Rowley was the one who got them to out of trouble even tho it would have been Gregs fault.

Yes i would recommend this book to other people. I recommend this book to people that don’t like to read, because i don’t like to read but i love this book i read it many many times.

So he sends Percy, Grover, and Annabeth to get the bolt from the underworld. Percy given a quest made him stronger making him not a whimp. Percy ended up getting the bolt to Zeus the helm back to Hades. It takes a lot of courage to do that quest! In the end Percy was a hero not a loser. Don’t underestimate the power you have.

Percy Jackson is the protagonist because he’s been accused as a thief but he tries to clear his name by helping find the bolt during his quest. He finds the real thief, and the real thief tricked him and the bolt appeared in his backpack that Ares had given him. The bolt appeared in his backpack when he was in the underworld so Hades would accuse him of his own helm being stolen. The real thief and Ares were right Hades saw Percy take out the bolt from his backpack and Hades accused Percy of stealing his helm. 19. Legend Lindzy Sullivan

    Author: Marie Lu Hr. 5

Day is a boy and he is about fifteen, he failed this test from the Republic, so they were going to kill him because he wasn't smart enough for them. Day got away and now is living on the street’s with a younger girl named Tess. Tess is like the healer she is always helping Day when he gets hurt and she is really good at it. Day found out his younger brother got a bad sickness that could kill him if not treated soon. Day goes and tries to steal some medicine for him, but his planned failed. Then after he meets June, he doesn’t know she is working with the Republic. June is looking for Day because he killed her brother Metias, but she doesn’t know the full other half of the story.

The type of conflict in this story would definitely be person vs. person because Day was trying to get medicine for his younger brother he did get some but a bunch of soldiers came and was trying to catch him. Day was to fast for them he jumped out a two story window and broke some of the medicine. One of the soldier named Metias had a gun pointing at Days heart, but Day threw a knife at Metias and it hit him in the arm he did that because he needed to get the medicine to his younger brother then Metias fell to the ground and Day got away, but he was badly injured.

I would say the theme of this story is “Don’t judge a book by it’s cover.”

I say that because June and the Republic thought Day was just a stupid boy living on the streets breaking laws, but Day was actually really smart. Day thought people like June were stuck up rich people who didn’t care about nobody except themself, but June was nothing like what Day thought. June and Day were very different from everybody else.

June is the protagonist in this story because she is with the Republic. She is also a military prodigy she is very committed to her country and follows all the rules. For only being fifteen she has been through alot and always stayed above the rest. June was very devastated when her brother got killed, but she stayed strong and now she is trying to find the person who killed him on her own.

I would recommend this book to people because it is a very good book, it has action and romance. If you're the kind of person who loves to read action and romance kind of books then this perfect for you. I personally like this book because it reminded me a lot of the Hunger Games.

  20. Catching Fire
Katniss and Peeta go on tour after winning the 74th Hunger Games. On tour they discover that the mocking jay is the sign of rebellion which is the pin Katniss wears. Snow (the one who runs the capital) wants to kill her and her family, and her threatens her by telling she needs to fake her love for Peeta. There was a for all living tributes be apart of the drawing in the 75th Hunger Games. Of course Katniss was the only one who was a girl from district 12 so she was picked; just as Snow wanted. Now that her and Peeta are back at the 75th Hungers Games they make allies this time around. During the game they and the other allies figured out that the game works like a clock with different things, that happen at a specific time, in a specific section of the arena. The climax of the story is when Katniss figures out how to destroy the are from another plan one of her allies had made. At the specific time of midnight lightning struck and she destroys the arena. While she is unconscious they remove her from the game and then when she awakes she discovers that there was a plan to save her, for she is the new symbol of the revolution.

The major conflict of the story is how to defeat the enemy… Snow. Snow is the won who came up with the Hunger Games while putting fear in other people. During the game Katniss almost shot one of her allies and he said “Katniss don’t shoot; remember who the real enemy is”. Then she put the bow and arrow down.
The theme of the book is things are not always as they seem. When Katniss went into the 75th Hunger games she had no idea that other people had devised a plan behind her back to save her. She had no idea that she had become the new symbol of the revolution.
The protagonist of the story is Katniss. They whole story is centered around her. She under went many changes and little did she know others were making those changes for her behind her back.
I would recommend this book to anybody who enjoys fantasy books and thrilllers as well. With all of the action and drama you always want to know what is next.

  21. Book Report on NIGHT by Elie Wiesel Paul Tonneslan, 5 the

The book Night is about a young Jewish boy named Elie Wiesel, who is also the author. It tells the story about how him and his family were put in concentration camps. In the beginning he was split from his mother and sisters and left with father. They moved from camp to camp, barrack to barrack doing exhausting work for hours. For food they only got stale bread and poor soup to eat.

The conflict is the main baseline of the story. It is about the people which included people of Jewish faith that were forced to work and to suffer and even killed. It describes how some soldiers would beat the inmates just to let out anger and every so often at least 10 people were killed. This was called “the selection”. When they moved camps if you slowed down during the march from camp to camp they would shoot you on the spot with no hesitation. In the end the conflict is resolved by the resistance taking over the camp.

The theme of the story I picked is “don’t judge people based off of appearance, beliefs, or culture”. “Treat others how you want to be treated.” The German soldiers tortured inmates. They would beat them and forced them to do back breaking work. Some worked so hard that they would fall over dead in the middle of work. But the soldiers did nothing to make their conditions better. They would beat inmates for petty reasons without hesitation. For example, Elie was whipped about 20 times just for laughing at a soldier.

The protagonist is Elie Wiesel, I know this because the whole story is about him and his father struggling to survive. Through out the story he has lost all faith in God, he changed because he thought how the God he knew could allow such cruel things to happen to his people. He was split from his family and forced to sleep in filthy conditions, he changed from sleeping in a comfortable bed. He was use to eating till he was full, going to bed when he wanted to and having clean sheets to sleep on. All of that changed when the Nazi soldiers took over his town.

I would recommend this book. It gives first person example on how terrible the Holocaust really was, going into detail on how much people really suffered. You can watch TV documentaries about this or read other books but I think this one really gives you a feel about the tragedy, this book really made me feel sad and angry I think everybody would enjoy this book.

  22. The Life of Pi
    Yann Martel

Piscine Molitor Patel, “Pi”, a sixteen year-old Indian boy who has practiced Hinduism since birth, Christianity since he was 14, and Islam since he was, and whose family owns a zoo, move the family and the zoo to Canada in hopes of finding a "better life". However, on the family's voyage on a Japanese freighter ship across the Pacific Ocean, it sinks. Everyone on ship dies, except Pi, a hyena, a zebra, an orangutan and a Royal Bengal Tiger named Richard Parker alone in the center of the vast ocean in a 26 foot-long life boat. Not too long into their barbaric trek are only Pi and Richard Parker the only ones who remain.

When the ship sinks, Pi and Richard Parker have to learn how to live with each other for the next 227 days ahead of them. There are the dilemmas of lack of food, clean water, and psychological health, but most importantly of all is the problem of Pi maintaining hierarchy to Richard Parker--a man versus self-conflict. Pi cannot lose his power. Otherwise, it is sure Richard Parker will kill him.

Throughout Pi’s life, his peers teased his full first name, Piscine. As he grew older, he noticed even his teachers partook in this rotten game of name-calling It’s Pissing Patel. Where’s Pissing? I’ve got to go. You’re facing the wall. Are you Pissing? A few years later when Pi had begun a new school, on the first day before the teacher read his name aloud, Pi interrupted, grabbed a piece of chalk, and wrote on the chalkboard,
    My name is
    Piscine Molitor Patel
    Known to all as
    Pi Patel
    π=3.14
He had a new beginning. He could start again. Yann Martel shows in this story, in Pi’s life, that you can change your life as well; you can change your story.

In Pi’s new start with a new name, he also established a new moral ground. He was raised studying Hinduism, and in his teen years he was both baptized into Christianity and joined Islam, and his understanding and love for God blossomed. When Pi was at sea, he also perceived the essence of human interaction and what the mental horror of loneliness really does to someone.
I would recommend this book to anyone searching for a good book to read. Yann Martel has fantastic uses of figurative language and keeps you drawn in from the beginning. He also shows how humans cling to compassion and how they thirst for love. Above all, he makes you rethink everything you had just finished reading.

  23. A Wrinkle in Time
    By: Madeleine L’engle
~The plot begins with the arrival of Mrs. Whatsit at the Murry house on a dark and stormy evening. On the afternoon following Mrs. Whatsit's visit, Meg and Charles Wallace walk over to Mrs. Whatsit's cabin. On the way, they meet Calvin O'Keefe, a popular boy in Meg's school whom Charles considers a kindred spirit. The three Mrs. W's transport the children to Camazotz and instruct them to remain always in each other's company while on their quest for Mr. Murry. On Camazotz, under the control of IT, Charles leads Meg and Calvin to Mr. Murry and together they confront IT. However, they, too, are unable to withstand IT's power; they escape only at the last minute. Charles Wallace remains possessed by IT, a prisoner of Camazotz. On Planet Ixchel the three Mrs. W's reappears, and Meg realizes that she must travel alone back to Camazotz to rescue her brother. Thus, by concentrating on her love for Charles Wallace, she is able to restore him to his true identity. Meg releases Charles from IT's clutches and tessers with him through time and space, landing in her twin brothers' vegetable garden on Earth, where her father and Calvin stand waiting. The family joyously reunites, and the Mrs. W's visit the happy scene in route to further travels.

~The major conflict in this story is when Meg and Calvin and her father had to fight IT to get Charles Wallace back into his old self. This type of conflict is called person vs. person. This conflict was resolved in this story because when they left Charles Wallace behind to get away from IT, Meg went back alone and got Charles Wallace back by using her weapon; love. Another conflict in this story is person vs. fate, Meg, Calvin, and Charles Wallace had to face the fact of being alone without the Mrs. W’s help when they were on Camazotz. This conflict is also resolved because they eventually found their way to Mr. Murry with the robotic like Charles Wallace’s help.

~The theme of the story is “try your best wherever you are and don’t give up.” I picked this theme because when the three kids went to Camazotz Meg always wanted to go back because she was scared but then Calvin convinced her of not giving up and to stay together as to what Mrs. Which said to them. Meg wanted to stop and go back but Charles Wallace said you can go back but i’m going forward, Calvin said that they had to stay together no matter what.

~The protagonist is Meg. I know this because she desperately wants to save her father from . being gone for over a year and she does what she can to save him. She is also the main character in this story. She changed from a homely, awkward, but loving girl to a brave person. I can tell that she changed because at first she was scared of everything in Camazotz but later on she realizes she has to go back to Camazotz to save her brother.

~ I would recommend this book to anybody who likes adventurous books because in this book they go on adventures to all kinds of places they have never seen before in their life. I liked this book because as i was reading it got more and more interesting and it ended with a happy ending to being a happy family again.
